Fue aislada por primera vez de un biorreactor en los Paises Bajos, como indica el nombre de la especie. Esta bacteria en forma de bastoncillo del filo Chloroflexi habita sistemas de tratamiento de aguas residuales y entornos naturales ricos en nitrogeno.
