El ermitaño verde (Phaethornis guy), un gran colibrí ermitaño del húmedo bosque lluvioso de Centroamérica y los Andes septentrionales, debe su nombre al plumaje predominantemente verde de los machos — inusual entre los ermitaños, que generalmente son pardos y beige. Las hembras tienen la parte superior verde azulado y la inferior rufa. Se encuentra desde Costa Rica hasta Perú y Venezuela, a elevaciones de hasta 1.600 metros en el sotobosque forestal. Son importantes polinizadores de grandes flores de Heliconia y Calathea a lo largo del suelo forestal, siguiendo rutas de trampa-línea establecidas.
