Common ragwort

<em>Pericallis hybrida</em>, the common ragwort, is a flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, a group renowned for its composite flower heads. Though evaluated as Not Evaluated by the IUCN, this hybrid species is widely cultivated as an ornamental and has established naturalized populations in various regions including Colombia, India, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It typically grows in temperate to subtropical environments, often favoring disturbed ground, roadsides, coastal cliffs, and cultivated gardens. The plant produces showy daisy-like flowers in shades of purple, pink, and white, making it a popular horticultural subject. As a hybrid plant, <em>Pericallis hybrida</em> arose primarily from crosses within the genus Pericallis, native to the Canary Islands and Macaronesia. It typically thrives in well-drained soils with moderate moisture. As an angiosperm, it obtains nutrients through photosynthesis and plays a role in supporting pollinators including bees and butterflies in gardens. Biological traits such as lifespan and body measurements remain poorly documented for this taxon in wild populations, and detailed ecological studies outside horticultural contexts are limited. Its conservation significance is currently under review.
