<em>Parlatoria proteus</em> is an armored scale insect in the family Diaspididae, found in Japan, Taiwan, ten European countries, and the United States. It is a cosmopolitan pest species associated with a wide range of host plants across virtually all terrestrial habitats where cultivated trees and shrubs are present. The species infests the bark, leaves, and fruit of numerous hosts, including citrus, palms, figs, and ornamental plants, by piercing plant tissue and extracting sap. Infestations can lead to chlorosis, dieback, and fruit damage in heavily colonized plants. Female scale insects are sedentary once settled, protected beneath a waxy armored cover produced from molted exoskeletons and secretions. Males are short-lived winged forms involved only in reproduction. Conservation status has not been formally evaluated by the IUCN, consistent with its status as a widely distributed and economically significant agricultural pest rather than a species of conservation concern. Biological traits including average lifespan, body measurements, and detailed ecological dietary data remain poorly documented in standardized databases for this scale insect. <em>Parlatoria proteus</em> is managed through biological control agents, horticultural oils, and systemic insecticides in affected agricultural systems.
