Tapinothrix mucicola es una cianobacteria filamentosa que crece en sustratos mucilaginosos de ambientes acuaticos. Forma tricomas delgados embebidos en vainas gelatinosas, contribuyendo a tapetes microbianos en habitats de agua dulce y de transicion. Su taxonomia la ubica dentro del orden Synechococcales.
