Symphytocarpus amaurochaetoides es un mixomiceto que produce esporangios oscuros y agrupados sobre madera en descomposicion y detritos vegetales en entornos forestales. Pertenece a un grupo de organismos que alternan entre un plasmodio movil y nutricional y una etapa reproductiva esporangial. Como otros mixomicetos, contribuye a la ecologia microbiana alimentandose de bacterias y detritos en habitats boscosos.
