Sphingopyxis granuli es una alfaproteobacteria gramnegativa de la familia Sphingomonadaceae, caracterizada por sus colonias de pigmentacion amarilla y la presencia de esfingolipidos en su membrana, rasgo compartido en toda la familia. Fue aislada de material asociado a granulos y es aerobia, con forma de bastoncillo y movilidad propia. Las especies de Sphingopyxis son comunes en suelos, agua dulce y entornos asociados a plantas.
