Sistotrema pistilliferum es un basidiomiceto corticiode que forma costras resupinadas finas, blancas a color crema ceroso, sobre madera en descomposicion. Habita bosques templados y boreales, creciendo sobre troncos caidos y ramas de arboles de madera dura y coniferas. Este hongo saprotrofico descompone material lenoso muerto mediante procesos enzimaticos de pudricion blanca.
