Found across multiple habitat types including tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests, and tropical and subtropical grasslands and savannas, among 6 distinct biome types spanning the Australasia and Indomalayan and Palearctic realms. Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.

El cotorra pechiroja (Psittacula alexandri) es un periquito de tamano mediano con el pecho y las mejillas de color rojo rosado que contrastan con el plumaje verde y gris. Se distribuye por el sur y sudeste de Asia desde Nepal e India hasta Vietnam e Indonesia. Habita bosques, manglares y zonas cultivadas, reuniendose a menudo en grandes bandadas en arboles frutales y cultivos de grano. Su area de distribucion es una de las mas fragmentadas entre los periquitos del genero Psittacula. Es muy utilizada en avicultura en Asia y Europa.
