Neottiella rutilans es un pequeno hongo de copa de color naranja brillante que crece sobre suelos musgosos y desnudos en habitats templados. Habita bancales musgosos de bosque, brezales arenosos y suelos acidos en Europa y America del Norte templadas. Este ascomiceto saprotrofico descompone restos vegetales y materia organica del suelo, fructificando en primavera y otono.
