Lophodermium piceae es un endófito y patógeno ascomiceto que produce ascocarpos lenticulares de apertura en hendidura sobre las acículas de los abetos. Habita el tejido de las acículas de especies de Picea en bosques boreales y montanos del Hemisferio Norte. Este hongo es a la vez un componente endofítico de acículas sanas y puede causar la enfermedad del enrojecimiento de las acículas en árboles de picea debilitados o estresados.
