Found across multiple habitat types including tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, tropical and subtropical grasslands and savannas, and flooded grasslands and savannas, among 7 distinct biome types spanning the Afrotropic and Neotropic and Oceanian realms. Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.
Distributed across Colombia, Ecuador, and Kenya. Currently classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, this species faces significant conservation challenges across its range.

El felino salvaje más grande de Africa, el león puede alcanzar hasta 250 kg y es el único félido social, viviendo en manadas en sabanas y praderas del Africa subsahariana. Protoperidinium quarnerense es un dinoflagelado marino heterotrofico con un cuerpo celular acorazado caracteristico, nombrado en honor al golfo de Quarnero del mar Adriatico. Habita aguas marinas costeras y neriticas en mares templados, especialmente en el Mediterraneo y las zonas atlanticas adyacentes. Este protista depredador se alimenta de diatomeas y otras microalgas mediante su mecanismo de alimentacion por pallium.
