Uno de los pájaros enjaulados más populares en Asia Oriental, los gorriones de Java son pinzones llamativos con plumaje gris, una audaz cabeza negra, manchas blancas características en las mejillas y un brillante pico rojo. Originarios de Java y Bali en Indonesia, han sido introducidos en muchas partes de Asia, África y las Américas.
