Hygrocybe turunda es un pequeño hongo higrocíbico de color escarlata a rojo-anaranjado con una superficie del sombrero seca y escamosa que lo distingue de especies afines de sombrero liso. Crece en pastizales sin mejorar y pobres en nutrientes y céspedes musgosos en Europa templada, particularmente en praderas antiguas.
