Habitat & Geographic Range
Maricao
Inhabits tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests and tropical and subtropical grasslands and savannas spanning the Australasia and Afrotropic realms. Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.
Widely distributed across Africa (5 countries), Asia (Japan, Taiwan), North America (4 countries), Oceania and the Pacific (Australia, Papua New Guinea), and South America (Colombia).
Sambar de Java
Found across multiple habitat types including temperate broadleaf and mixed forests, tundra, and tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests spanning the Australasia and Afrotropic and Oceanian realms.
Distributed across Mauritius, New Zealand, and Norway. Currently classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, this species faces significant conservation challenges across its range.
