La tortuga verde (Chelonia mydas) es una de las tortugas marinas más grandes. Su nombre proviene del color verde de su cartílago y grasa, no del caparazón.
Petalomonas pusilla es un pequeno flagelado euglenozoo de vida libre, caracterizado por su cuerpo celular rigido y aplanado y un unico flagelo utilizado para la locomocion. Habita ambientes de agua dulce y salobre, alimentandose de bacterias y particulas organicas. Su genero es notable por carecer de cloroplastos, lo que lo hace completamente heterotrof a diferencia de sus parientes euglenas fotosinteticas.
