La tortuga verde (Chelonia mydas) es una de las tortugas marinas más grandes. Su nombre proviene del color verde de su cartílago y grasa, no del caparazón.
Methanofollis aquaemaris es un arquea metanogena del orden Methanomicrobiales, aislada de sedimentos marinos. Es un metanogeno estrictamente anaerobio e hidrogenotrofico, que produce metano reduciendo dioxido de carbono con hidrogeno como donante de electrones. Su habitat marino la distingue de varias otras especies de Methanofollis aisladas de ambientes de agua dulce o terrestres.
