El búho real euroasiático (Bubo bubo), la mayor especie de búho del mundo por altura y peso, tiene una envergadura alar de hasta 1,9 metros y habita paisajes rocosos, bordes forestales y acantilados desde Europa a través de Asia hasta China. Cazador nocturno silencioso con poderosas garras, preda sobre conejos, liebres, zorros e incluso otras rapaces. Su profundo y resonante ulular se escucha a gran distancia. Su población es relativamente estable, aunque fue perseguido históricamente.
