Eunotia elegans es una diatomea pennada de la familia Eunotiaceae, distinguida por su frústulo arqueado (curvado) con un rafe marginal corto en cada polo. Habita lagos ácidos y de aguas blandas, turberas y entornos de agua dulce oligotróficos donde contribuye a las comunidades de perifiton. El género Eunotia se considera un útil indicador de la acidez del agua y la baja conductividad iónica.
