Echinostelium paucifilum es un myxomiceto diminuto que produce esporangios excepcionalmente pequeños, entre los más pequeños de la clase Myxogastria. Crece sobre material vegetal en descomposición y corteza en microhábitats húmedos y refugiados en bosques de todo el mundo. El nombre de la especie, paucifilum, hace referencia a los pocos hilos (filamentos capiliciales) de su esporangio, un rasgo distintivo de este diminuto organismo.
