Dictyota dichotoma es un alga parda común con frondes planas, repetidamente bifurcadas y de color verde oliva a marrón dorado, que forma talos en forma de abanico. Habita orillas rocosas intermareales y submareales someras de mares templados a tropicales de todo el mundo. Esta macroalga fotosintética se ancla a la roca mediante un rizoma y puede reproducirse tanto sexual como asexualmente.
