Rhizocarpon oederi es un liquen crustoso registrado historicamente sobre rocas siliceas en partes de Europa y America del Norte. Actualmente esta clasificado como Extinto (EX) en la Lista Roja de la UICN, representando uno de los pocos liquenes confirmados como perdidos. Su desaparicion se atribuye a la destruccion del habitat, la contaminacion atmosferica y los requisitos microhabitacionales muy especificos que lo hacian vulnerable.
