Se encuentra en bosque tropical de tierras bajas desde el sur de Mexico a traves de Centroamerica y la mayor parte de Sudamerica hasta Bolivia y Brasil. Habita bosque humedo y bordes de bosque, viajando en parejas o pequenos grupos. Catalogada como Preocupacion Menor globalmente, aunque afectada localmente por la perdida de habitat y el comercio de mascotas.
