Un colibrí de tamaño mediano-grande de los bosques montanos andinos de Colombia a Bolivia, los incas collarejo tienen un plumaje negro y blanco llamativo con una ancha banda pectoral blanca y manchas caudales blancas distintivas visibles en vuelo. Habita bosques y bordes forestales a altitudes de 1.700-3.200 metros, se alimenta en diversas plantas con flor y es un importante polinizador de arbustos y árboles andinos de grandes flores.
