El capuchino ventricastaño es un pequeño pinzón estríldido robusto con plumaje marrón rojizo intenso, cabeza negra y vientre blanco, que habita praderas, arrozales y bordes de bosques abiertos desde India y Sri Lanka hacia el este a través del Sudeste Asiático hasta Filipinas y Taiwán.
