Ceratoneis closterium es una diatomea marina y de agua salobre esbelta y en forma de media luna, con extremos celulares delicadamente ahusados y curvados. Habita entornos planctónicos marinos costeros y de estuarios en mares templados a tropicales de todo el mundo.
