La amazona nuquiescamada (Amazona mercenaria) es un gran loro amazona de color predominantemente verde con distintivas plumas nucales de escamas oscuras y una mancha roja en el ala. Habita los bosques montanos humedos de los Andes septentrionales y centrales en Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador y Peru, a elevaciones de 600-3.000 metros. Relativamente poco conocida en comparacion con otros amazones, se encuentra en parejas o pequenas bandadas que se alimentan de semillas, frutos y flores en el bosque nublado.
