Es de tamano mediano con partes superiores verdes y una distintiva cola de color naranja rufo brillante. Se distribuye desde Mexico hasta Ecuador y Trinidad en una gran variedad de habitats, incluyendo bordes de bosque, jardines, plantaciones y vegetacion secundaria desde el nivel del mar hasta los 2.100 metros. Defensor agresivo de territorios en comederos y plantas con flores, es frecuentemente observado en jardines de toda su area de distribucion. Clasificado como Preocupacion Menor.
