Cortinarius urbicus es un hongo de sombrero fibroso y robusto del género Cortinarius con un sombrero marrón sedoso y láminas de color oxidado al madurar. Habita en bosques de coníferas y mixtos, formando asociaciones ectomicorrícicas con abeto, pino y ocasionalmente árboles caducifolios. Este hongo obtiene nutrientes comerciando azúcares con sus socios arbóreos en el suelo forestal.
