Entre los Sporophila mas ampliamente distribuidos, prosperan en paisajes agricolas perturbados y vegetacion secundaria. Se alimentan en bandadas pequenas a grandes de semillas de gramineas y cultivos de cereales. De Preocupacion Menor, con poblaciones que se benefician de la expansion agricola.
