Puede alcanzar 2 metros de altura y pesar 90 kg, habitando las regiones aridas y semiaridas del interior de Australia. Altamente adaptado a las duras condiciones del desierto, puede sobrevivir largos periodos sin beber agua extrayendo la humedad de la vegetacion.
