Biddulphia rhombus es una diatomea marina céntrica con una válvula de forma distintivamente bipolar, rómbica a ampliamente lanceolada, con prominentes elevaciones en forma de cuernos. Habita ambientes planctónicos y bentónicos costeros en mares templados a cálidos de todo el mundo. Esta diatomea fotosintética contribuye a la producción primaria marina en aguas costeras neríticas.
