Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.

Es aerobia, de forma bacilar y móvil mediante un único flagelo, capaz de producir amoniaco a partir de compuestos orgánicos nitrogenados. El género Curtobacterium se encuentra habitualmente en suelos agrícolas y en la filosfera de diversas plantas de cultivo.
