Anathece smithii es una cianobacteria colonial que forma pequeñas colonias irregularmente redondeadas embebidas en mucílago en ambientes de agua dulce. Habita cuerpos de agua dulce eutróficos a mesotróficos, incluidos lagos y estanques de regiones templadas. Este procariota fotosintético contribuye a las comunidades de fitoplancton y al ciclo del nitrógeno en ecosistemas de agua dulce.

Tigre
