Phacus hamelii es un alga euglenoidea unicelular y fotosintetica con un cuerpo celular aplanado y asimetrico que contiene cloroplastos y una caracteristica extension posterior en forma de cola. Habita ambientes de agua dulce como estanques, acequias y cursos de agua de movimiento lento ricos en materia organica. Como otras especies de Phacus, usa un flagelo para la locomocion y puede realizar tanto fotosintesis como alimentacion heterotrofa.
