El único pingüino nativo de África habita islas y costas del sur del continente, desde Namibia hasta Port Elizabeth. Con 70 cm de altura, se reconoce por su llamada similar al rebuzno y su característico plumaje blanco y negro con una glándula rosada sobre el ojo.
