Produce cuerpos fructíferos agudamente cónicos de color amarillo brillante a naranja en pastizales antiguos sin fertilizar y se considera un indicador de la integridad ecológica del pastizal. Está ampliamente distribuido pero localmente depende de hábitats de pastizal estables y no mejorados durante largo tiempo.
