The precise taxonomic placement of Ciliolarina requires specialist expertise—the name has been applied to organisms within certain mite or similar arthropod groups associated with coniferous bark microhabitats. It is found in northern and central Europe in habitats where pine woodland predominates. The species has not been assessed by the IUCN, and detailed ecological data are limited. Organisms of this type typically inhabit the bark crevices, dead wood, and epiphytic communities of coniferous forests, where they may feed on algae, fungal hyphae, or small invertebrates.
