Felsensittich

A unique ground-nesting parrot of Argentina and Chile that excavates burrows in steep cliff faces and riverbanks — a highly unusual nesting strategy among parrots — burrowing parakeets form large, noisy colonies in Patagonian cliff habitats. They feed on seeds and grasses in open, arid landscapes and can fly long distances between colonies and feeding areas. Population size is large but declining in some regions due to agricultural pest control and habitat conversion.
