Stenotrophomonas indicatrix is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium related to the important environmental and opportunistic pathogen Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. It has been isolated from diverse soil and plant-associated environments. This aerobic chemoheterotroph degrades a wide range of organic compounds in terrestrial habitats.
Stenotrophomonas pavanii is a Gram-negative rod first isolated from sugarcane plants, reflecting its association with agricultural crops. It inhabits the endosphere and rhizosphere of grasses and crops in subtropical and tropical regions. This nitrogen-fixing bacterium provides nutritional benefits to its plant hosts.
