Protoperidinium quarnerense is a heterotrophic marine dinoflagellate with a characteristic armored cell body named after the Quarnero Gulf in the Adriatic Sea. It inhabits coastal and neritic marine waters in temperate seas, particularly in the Mediterranean and adjacent Atlantic zones. This predatory protist feeds on diatoms and other microalgae using its pallium feeding mechanism.
