Leptolyngbya perelegans is a thin-filamentous cyanobacterium in the family Leptolyngbyaceae, found in diverse environments including soil crusts, freshwater biofilms, and marine intertidal zones. Its narrow trichomes are enclosed in a thin, often indistinct sheath and glide slowly across substrates. The genus Leptolyngbya is morphologically diverse and has undergone substantial taxonomic revision with molecular phylogenetics.
