Gloeocapsa rupicola is a cyanobacterium in the family Chroococcaceae that colonises exposed rock surfaces, tolerating desiccation and high irradiance. Cells are enclosed in layered gelatinous sheaths and form dark crusts on stone and bark. Its conservation status is not evaluated.
