This species typically inhabits diverse terrestrial and aquatic environments, including eucalyptus woodlands, urban parks, and gardens. The common brushtail possum has not been formally evaluated on the IUCN Red List. As a member of the family Phalangeridae, it is recognized by its bushy black tail, large ears, and silvery gray fur. The species often forages nocturnally, feeding on leaves, fruits, flowers, and occasionally invertebrates.
