Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.

The most studied and recognized dolphin species, bottlenose dolphins inhabit warm and temperate oceans worldwide, from coastal shallows to the open sea. Peniophora violaceolivida is a corticioid basidiomycete fungus producing smooth, resupinate (crust-like) fruiting bodies with violet to olive-grey tones on dead wood of broadleaf trees. It is a wood decomposer found in temperate European forests, contributing to white rot of hardwood. The species is one of many Peniophora fungi that colonise dead branches and fallen logs in woodland.
