Sulfuricaulis limicola is a chemolithoautotrophic bacterium capable of oxidising sulphur compounds as an energy source, isolated from freshwater sediment (limicola meaning mud-dwelling). It inhabits anaerobic or microaerobic sediment environments where reduced sulphur compounds are available. This bacterium contributes to sulphur biogeochemical cycling in freshwater and wetland ecosystems.
