Cyanothece majus is a relatively large unicellular cyanobacterium that fixes atmospheric nitrogen within specialised intracellular compartments. It is found in marine and freshwater environments and contributes to nitrogen cycling in aquatic ecosystems. Its conservation status is not evaluated.
