Planomicrobium chinense is a motile, Gram-positive coccoid bacterium first isolated in China, as its name implies. It produces yellowish-orange pigmented colonies and inhabits terrestrial soil environments. This aerobic bacterium decomposes organic compounds in soil and has been found in various Asian soil habitats.
Planomicrobium psychrophilum is a cold-adapted, motile coccus capable of growth at low temperatures, making it well-suited for cold environments. It has been isolated from polar and alpine soils, cold seawater, and refrigerated environments worldwide. This psychrophilic bacterium decomposes organic matter at temperatures near freezing.
