The species typically inhabits forest floors and areas with decomposing wood and leaf litter, where it plays a key role in breaking down organic matter and recycling nutrients. <em>Infundibulicybe gibba</em> produces characteristic funnel-shaped fruiting bodies, typically pale buff to pinkish-tan in color, with deeply decurrent gills running down the stipe.
