Novosphingobium guangzhouense is a gram-negative, aerobic bacterium in the family Sphingomonadaceae, originally isolated from environmental samples in Guangzhou, China. Like other members of its genus, it is capable of degrading aromatic compounds in soil and water habitats. Its conservation status is not evaluated.
Novosphingobium lindaniclasticum is a Gram-negative rod named for its ability to degrade lindane, a persistent organochlorine pesticide. It has been isolated from lindane-contaminated soils and wastewater environments. This specialized bacterium is of significant interest for bioremediation of chlorinated pesticide contamination in agricultural soils.
